How You Can Help We are an all-volunteer group, and we rely on the kindness of others to operate. There are many ways in which individuals can help us save feral cats from euthanasia:
VOLUNTEERS: If you have experience or are willing to be trained in dealing with feral cats, please contact us! We are looking for people to join us in training new volunteers, educating the general public, socializing kittens (and some adult cats), and trapping ferals for TNR.
FOSTERS: We are looking for two types of fosters. We need people who can foster adoptable cats until they are adopted (or for any length of time), and for those who can keep caged feral cats in their homes for a few days after they have been neutered/spayed. Ideally, males will remain caged for 2-3 days after their surgeries, and females will be caged for 4-5 days. People who are able to help in this way will be given training in how to take care of caged feral cats.
CARETAKERS: We are looking for people who are already caretakers and willing to join with FOG in our efforts. We are also looking for individuals who are willing to become caretakers in their neighborhoods. Occasionally, we need to relocate feral cats to new colonies. Regardless of whether you are a new or continuing caretaker, your location will be kept confidential.
SPONSORS: Our FOG cats need financial assistance. Each FOG cat is neutered/spayed, tested, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. This costs $69 for females and $59 for males. Please consider sponsoring a cat! This will enable us to help more ferals than we otherwise could.
VETERINARIANS: We are also looking for veterinarians who are willing to donate their services or lower costs for our cause. For many vets, what they do is not just a profession, it’s a mission!
DONATIONS: Carriers, cages, crates, traps, litter boxes, litter, and food are always welcome!
If you can help in any way, please e-mail janet@friendsofgypsy.org or call (850) 926-1002.
